Spirit of 1945

Your stories of life in a post-war Britain

This website has been built to gather stories about life in a post-war Britain from people living in the East Midlands.

The Spirit of 1945 website forms part of the research, development, production and distribution of an archive documentary feature film about Britain after the end of the Second World War.

The film's producers invite individuals and communities to contribute their stories, memories and personal archives.

The stories, images and footage that you post on this website will contribute to the initial research and development phase and your contributions are gratefully received.

This project has been enabled by EM Media and the UK Film Council’s Digital Film Archive Fund supported by the National Lottery.

How to contribute

To share your memories, photos and stories you will first need to become a member of the Spirit of 1945 website, which can be done in a few simple steps.

Firstly, click on the 'Sign Up' link opposite then fill in the short form. You will need an email address, then you select a password, complete your date of birth (this is optional) then type into the box the two words displayed on your screen.
